That wasn't too bad, all things considering.
Agreed.

There's even a more size-changing scenes, the first one shows the young prince being cursed (he shrinks first, then changes into the nutcracker). The second one at the end when the Rat Queen and all her court get changed back into rats - they shrink out of their clothes (ultra fast poof shrink) but they're rats, so...

I love that squeaky voice that was used for that quick moment! Thanks for sharing.

Well, as in other Nutcracker versions there's no interaction, and here the shrinking process is hidden behind the particle effects. Too bad because the animation quality is good for a non-AAA studio.

Here's the shrinking scene and a few minutes afterwards :

There's a bit at the end where she grows back (too much) and then shrinks to her normal size... again, obscured by the obnoxious particle effects :

Well not entirely - Keira Knightly as the (evil) Sugar Plum Fairy gets turned into a doll at the end.
Well, yeah... I guess it counts as shrinking, you're technically correct (the best kind of correct!). I was just hoping for something as good as 2010's Alice.

Plus (while it's not a sequence) there is a moment earlier in the movie where Claire appears shrunk.
Oh yes that short sequence, right. I was soooo disappointed with the movie that I removed it from my memory. :shrugs:
No arguments there, but I thought it was worth noting.

Did the Disney one have shrinking?
If you mean 2018's The Nutcracker and the Four Realms, sadly, no. I was really looking forward to a nice shrinking scene.

The poster says Christmas 2021, which would have been a much better time to release it. I wonder if there are legal restrictions to exporting russian films.
I guess it was just COVID related delays, it has not been released in Russia either. There's a newer poster available now, but I choose this one for obvious reasons.

Almost all other versions I know of feature some shrinking:

Very nice, I really like it. As usual, there's but a couple of half-second safe-for-work SW moments here and there, but we take what we can get

Don't expect much from this one, but since all Nutcracker story versions include SW in one way or another, here is this russian animated version coming out in November...
Wishing to be carefree again instead of being forced to marry, 17-year-old Marie is magically shrunk down to the size of her childhood toys, which all come to life. There she discovers a nutcracker doll to be a prince who has been put under a spell.
