More squeaks from the doll gallery:
Sorry boys, this is a no-brainer for moi!
Valerie was always my heroine. As a woman who always wanted to be shrunken to doll size, it wasn't hard to imagine myself in the same predicaments that Valerie got into (even though she wasn't technically a shrunken woman, it didn't seem to matter to all the giants in that strange land!)
There is also no question that in the context of the show, the producer and writers singled the sexy red-head out for special treatment: It wasn't Betty who was trapped in a cage with a huge gorilla, who held her in his hairy hands and who liked her so much he threw his giant banana at her (which would give me some ideas, but let's discuss that later...). It wasn't Betty who was captured and dressed in a fancy costume and forced to dance for the amusement of the giants in a huge bird cage. And it wasn't Betty who in the very first episode was taped down to a glass specimen slide and poked at by a giant pencil! Eeeeek!
Valerie's Adventures in Giant Land were like a doll-sized version of "The Perils of Pauline", and I lived her adventures vicariously for years and wished for a way to visit that strange land. (I would still like to see a modern version that is not as PG as the original had to be at that time period in TV history!)
I rest my tiny case.
Tiny hugs,
Kara
