"Borrower" Vet Tech in the big world

A quiet Sunday. No animals were in the hospital so even Jorge, the kennel cleaner, didn't come in. No one had included Tatiana in any of their plans, so she was quite bored and restless. She decided to have some fun on her own, so she raided the Office Manager's desk and took every thumbtack she could find. Then with a couple boxes in the storeroom, she built herself a "rock-climbing" wall like she saw on a YouTube video. On Monday morning, the Office Manager wasn't too happy with the misappropriation of her thumbtacks, but she let the wall stand.

Pizza Day is Tatiana's favorite day at the veterinarian hospital. Pizza is very popular with the Borrower community as beans tend to toss out leftover slices of pizza or at least the sauce and cheese stuck to the box. The boxes are easy to find and what is a small amount of food to a bean is a feast to a Borrower family. A poker chip makes a nice sized plate for a chunk of cheese and sauce one of the being vet staff cuts off their piece. And you know those white plastic things that are stuck in the middle of a delivery pizza? You thought those were to save the pizza from getting smooshed to the top of the box, but you would be wrong. They are Borrower chairs !!!

Things have been a little awkward since Tatiana kissed Zack. He hasn't talked to her very much and avoids any circumstance where he and she would be alone together. Vanessa noticed this too, so she asked Tatiana to hang out after work. It was a bit dreary outside, so they went to Vanessa's place. She introduced Tatiana to "bubble baths", something that was not known in the Borrower world.

Followed by a back massage after Tatiana painted Vanessa's nails.

In the house Tatiana lived with parents before their demise, a teenage bean was a big Sci-Fi nut and watched a lot of old movies and television shows from the 50's and 60's. From a vantage in the family room, she could watch the shows without being noticed. Most of Tatiana's co-workers couldn't understand the deep-down fear and distrust she still harbored of most the beans in her new world.

In the morning, Vanessa left Tatiana on the floor watching television while she ran some errands. That's when Tatiana noticed the Twinkie on the coffee table. Luckily, she always carries her gear with her so for a Borrower, it's not a big thing.......

Late night snacks can be a challenge to a six inch tall girl, but when you gotta have some Cheetos, you just do what you have to do. But sometimes you have to decide whether to drag the bag back to your apartment or just eat them in the middle of the floor. Good thing the interior security cameras take very poor quality videos at night.....Tatiana is a bit of an exhibitionist when no one is around.

Late Saturday night, Vanessa was called into the hospital to assist Dr. Rattenheimer with an emergency case and Tatiana would be needed. Vanessa got her up and started setting up the operating room when Dr. Rattenheimer arrived with her favorite cat, Mr. Jones. Did I introduce you to Dr. Rattenheimer yet? No? Well, she is the one who fought to get the hospital to hire Tatiana. You see, she studied under one of the premier microvascular surgeons in the world and immediately recognized the potential a tiny-handed Borrower could have on this field. So it is because of her, Tatiana was able to start working at the hospital and Dr. Rattenheimer taught her how to sew grafts onto veins and arteries in a much less invasive manner than any being surgeon could do. But do you really care about that? I didn't think so, so back to the story. Mr. Jones had jumped into the children's toy box and was impaled by a dart, like the ones you throw at dartboards in bars. The dart had penetrated the carotid artery. As long as dart stayed put, very little bleeding was happening, but if the dart was pulled out, Mr. Jones would bleed out in a matter of minutes. In addition, the arterial graft would have to very small, about 3mm square, not much larger than the hole created by the dart. If any larger, the blood would fill under the graft and result in an aneurysm, which would probably rupture, and Mr. Jones would become the late Mr. Jones. Dr. Rattenheimer knew this type of repair could not be accomplished with her big fingers and forceps and she believed Tatiana would be able to pull it off. So the plan was this: The cat was anesthesized and intubated. Dr. Rattenheimer would open the skin and expose the artery while Vanessa steadied the dart. When all was ready to go, she would stop Mr. Jones heart with cardioversion, then Tatiana would have no more than 3 minutes to sew the graft in place and pack the wound with xeroform guaze, jump off Mr. Jones and Dr. Rattenheimer would restart Mr. Jone's heart with another cardiovert. With everything in place, they were ready to start when Tatiana yelled out, "Hold on just one second" and she tore off her scrubs and stood there with just her hair clip on. She knew this one was gonna be messy and why worry about washing your scrubs when a bubble bath will clean you up just fine?

The procedure was a success, Mr. Jones still has 8 more lives to go and Tati got her bubble bath with a little help from Vanessa.

Vanessa offered to help Tati wash down some smaller mice that were to undergo some experimental treatments at a nearby health and science center. I guess Vanessa was hoping Tati would need a little help with that wet T-shirt............

In an effort to smooth out the uneasiness with Tatiana over the "kiss incident", Zack made a scale model sidewalk cafe so Tatiana could sit at a "normal" table and they could have a formal dinner "date". Keith had told him about the gawkers when he took Tatiana to a bean restaurant and how uncomfortable she was so he thought this would make her feel more "normal" in her abnormal world amongst the beans. The only thing Tatiana could think was "No matter bean or Borrower, guys just don't know what a girl wants......"
