She never really lost her memory of her life before shrinking, but under Mrs. Reynolds "guidance" she started to accept her tininess as permanent and started to forget about her past. Had she stayed tiny, her mind would have eventually accepted that she is tiny, would always be tiny and forget all about life as a "big".
