Fancasting for "Land of the Giants" reboot (The Pilot/The Leader)
FANCASTING FOR LAND OF THE GIANTS REBOOT
"THE PILOT/THE LEADER"
The series (1968-1970):
STEVE BURTON
Aged 32-34
My candidates here are older than the original actor (the oldest is about 20 years older). The main criteria was if they had the look of a pilot (how they look in a flight suit/bodysuit/catsuit). Also, since the Spindrift is on the Los Angeles to London suborbital route, I give a small bonus if the candidate has a British accent.
JESSICA ALBA
Aged 40 next month
Showed herself off at age 19 on the TV series Dark Angel, playing a leather-clad genetic super-soldier. She continues the bodysuit look as Sue Storm in the Fantastic Four movies, and played a stripper in the Sin City movie.
KATE BECKINSALE
Aged 47
Played Alice in a Through the Looking Glass movie (that must count for something here). She looked spectacular in a bodysuit in multiple films for the Underworld series, playing the vampire Death Dealer Selene. She then turned vampire hunter in Hugh Jackman's Van Helsing, but was panned for a painful Romanian accent. In reality, Kate does have a nice British accent.
SCARLETT JOHANSSON
Aged 36
One of her early roles was fighting giant spiders at age 18 for Eight Legged Freaks (perhaps preparing for this role?). Since then, she has made a career out of bodysuit roles, starring in multiple Marvel Comics movies as Black Widow and a cyborg in Ghost in the Shell.
ANGELINA JOLIE
Aged 45
Became a leading star after playing video game heroine Lara Croft in the original Tomb Raider movies. The films demonstrated Angelina's physical abilities as she dealt with many giant things. She followed Lara Croft up by playing a fighter pilot in Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow.
JERI RYAN
Aged 53
The oldest candidate on the list, but resistance is still futile. Jeri wore the bodysuit that rocked the universe in Star Trek: Voyager. She's no longer in the outfit but still kicks butt for Star Trek: Picard. She donned a Marine Major's uniform in the fun series Warehouse 13, and even starred as Sonya Blade in a Mortal Kombat fan film called Rebirth.
COBIE SMULDERS
Aged 39 next month
Stars as Maria Hill in multiple Marvel Comics movies and shows. Zooms around in a friggin' flying aircraft carrier called the Helicarrier.
And that is that! I would have no problem watching any of these lovely ladies taped to a desk or dodging a giant plastic hand. If I had to choose, I would give the edge here to Kate Beckinsale. Kate is amazingly beautiful, she totally rules in that Death Dealer costume, and tones up with yoga and intense cardio. Oh, yeah, and the English accent...
But now it's your turn -- who takes it? Whose cuisine reigns supreme? Or who else should be on the list?

My knowledge on LOTG is limited, but looking at the choices I have to go with Beckinsale.

I've realized that genderbending the male characters to female will also result in name changes. So, I've done some research to determine a feminine version (if it exists) of a masculine name. Steve's feminine name is easy -- Stephanie. The other character names will be added as we go.

Came up with another candidate, and I'm amazed that I somehow overlooked for:
RACHEL NICHOLS
Aged 41
First wore the bodysuit as Scarlett in the original G.I. Joe movie The Rise of Cobra. She rocked it again as Kiera Cameron in the series Continuum (see picture). As garnish, she played a sexy green Orion girl in the 2009 Star Trek film.

Scarlett's enemy counterpart:
SIENNA MILLER
Aged 39
British-American. Rocked the bodysuit as the evil Cobra organization's The Baroness in G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra. I like the spectacles. The rest isn't bad, either.

Your Captain, sporting a tube top and leather pants. Her cat approves...

Re: Fancasting for "Land of the Giants" reboot (The Pilot/The Leader)
This is one of the roles I would keep with a male actor, rather than recast it with a female one. And I would have to go with Ben Browder from Farscape:
Plus, Browder's Burton would be more like his Crichton character than the original Steve Burton.
However, if you insisted that the role in the reboot had to be Captain Stephanie "Steve" Burton, I'd go with 42 year old Vanessa Lachey:
Her portrayal of SAC Jane Tennant on NCIS: Hawai'i makes her totally believable as a take charge Steve Burton

Re: Fancasting for "Land of the Giants" reboot (The Pilot/The Leader)
Just googled her. Never really used "her". Perhaps a character I had reminded you of her. Life is rough in the LOTG. To think some artists were already drawing sw's as playthings and met a rougher end as far back as the 50's like the comic in the pulp topic..jeffrey-dallas wrote: ↑Mon Jul 31, 2023 3:08 amDifferent episode funny all the sameSpoilerShowBut you also killed young Lacey Chabert....
