Number of threads for multi chapter stories

Post by Elana » Sat Oct 01, 2022 4:48 pm

As one view on the topic was mentioned in general..a quick poll to get a feel of general consensus.

Quick summary of possible positions.

a) Multiple chapters should be in one thread, otherwise they drown out any other content
b) Chapters should be separate, so it is easier to see what comments go to what chapter and to find new chapters

With those simplified options out of the way..time for a poll to see what position the majority has to make proper forum etiquette.

Unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be any way to manually create new pages on a thread. (Unless there is, and I don't know it.) If there was, we could add a new page for each chapter.

It's not really necessary. If you're looking to track responses to each chapter, that's what quoting in replies is for. Otherwise, keep watching people post tens of chapters and burying everyone else's work because they have to own the entire subforum.

Sure there could be better ways of organizing stories, but a board like this just isn't built for that. It does give us a lot more than just a repository for stories, though. It would be nice to have features like you're asking for, but I don't think it can happen without scrapping the entire forum and switching to a completely other system. I'm not even sure what that system would be.

I think it appropriate to say that one poster at least has taken notice of the poll findings, and compiled an excellent offering into one thread.

Well done that contributor. And I'm sure you know who you are. :)

Ps. Might it not be a bad idea to make this topic a sticky again Elana?
Just as a reminder why we required the rules post.

Before you hand out too much praise...I did some moderating and merging of previous stories.
But at least it looks like everyone has accepted to use the ruling in the future.

And I think keeping the rule post as a sticky should be enough.

No point in having stickies drowning out the real posts :P

In that case well done you! It was certainly needed.

Hopefully you'll be right on the other point.

If not, there's always the "bump" option. :D
