Pics of where we live

Post by chesya » Fri Mar 02, 2018 2:05 am

Cornwall is a peninsular surrounded on three sides by the sea and half the fourth side by a wide and deep drowned valley (Plymouth is on the other side of this) separating us from the already narrow peninsular of Somerset, Dorset and Devon and jutting into the warm Gulf Stream of the North Atlantic. We very rarely get snow in the coastal areas, but today was different.
IMG_3676.JPG
The Tidal range even this far inland can be 3 metres, which means many millions of cubic metres of relatively warm water flowing in on a spring tide - yet the snow held!

Here is a pic taken a couple of weeks ago from a town at the head of our estuary of the beautiful Pentire Point (meaning point point)

^^ Lovely. I'd love to visit some time.

I'm on the New Jersey Shore.

There are lots of beaches near me up and down the NJ coast.

But I'm a little inland.

Here's my town and another close to me.

Stunning pictures, Oh. Rivers are great. I live right by a major (for lil' ol' UK) river and a creek. The river turns into a wide estuary and has sheltered beaches, amazing dunes and cliffs either side. Those sunsets are really something and there is true art to the pic with the ski ride type thing just visible is true art. you clearly take beaches in your stride!

This church was buried for hundreds of years in the dunes and was rediscovered in Victorian times. It was too expensive excavate immediately, but it was too lovely not to use and the pastor had to be lowered through the roof. I can't describe the peace inside.
IMG_4441.JPG
The hills are not especially high here, but are nonetheless quite pronounced and singular - usually a igneous intrusion into clay making slate all around it. They are either asymmetrical with a convex slope against a concave side.
IMG_4444.JPG
Or a dome. This dome is imprinted on me since my earliest years, to remind me where I'm truly from
IMG_4403.JPG
It's more like Ireland and Wales here than England - many of us feel closer to Ireland than England especially after the Brexit vote, although it's seems the majority are chauvinistic English, mainly because of imagined fishing related issues.

I only know Sal as an active one and I often forget she is one because she's such a good friend, meaning that I hope we would be friends without this common interest.

I keep a number of size related pieces in my main portfolio just out of interest (OMG that sounds SO creepy) and they arouse far more interest among UK women than they do men. I'm not really interested, so I've never 'turned' anyone although the opportunity has been there. My ex-partner is French and writing SW themed poems to her seemed completely natural, but she was, I think, 'in denial' haha. My friends in our local mental health community are nearly all into 'faerye' - 'the other place'- so I get away with up to not quite explicit SW work there. 'Faerye' helps us structure our psychotic episodes into non-nightmare experiences, but if you ask anyone who has pronounced psychotic episodes, but also significant periods of lucidity, that from time to time you get visitations that you know deep inside that they are not part of the episode. It's been a long time, but I have definitely encountered 'real' fairy creatures which are like tiny human beings that can be both ethereal and sensual. The membrane between realities has always been thin in Cornwall, like Wales and Ireland and in this sense there are plenty of Cornish SWs, although many are hermaphrodite or indeterminate (in our terms). I am of course stark, raving bonkers, but do wonder if any people from 'the other place' are members of this board!

I have a great uncle in Golden (?) Valley NJ - he says the Jersey Coast is cool. He used to work for the Court of St James in London and had contacts who could get me, my siblings and various cousins into the US on a permanent basis. None of us went mostly because we were sort of radical and anti-US 'imperialism' back then. It's a shame because it must have disappointed him :( and the US is an amazing country.

Another odd thing is that I wrote a former outline for the Irish section of the NJ state curriculum on genocides. Back then I organised it so students could decide themselves. Now I think it should be taught as a genocide. The British deliberately failed to relieve the famine in the parts of Ireland where Gaelige, the Irish language, was spoken and therefore maintained a uniquely strong Irish culture. 1.5 million people died of hunger and related diseases between 1840 and 1850 when Britain was the richest country in the World. Now the DUP the main unionist party in Northern Ireland is blocking Sinn Fein's attempt to get the same status for Gaelige there as Welsh in Wales and Scots Gaelic in Scotland. The survival of Gaelige is the symbol of the survival and future of the Irish. Sorry to go on, it's just that it's important to me and has a connection for me with NJ. I believe even the dead deserve justice.

I was at the Tate St Ives - an important gallery in the UK - on Saturday - we were talking about psycho-geography and the invisible landscape and it s effect on art in Cornwall. I said that when I was a child I could feel the 'invisible' landscape strongly and many others of the group had felt the same. It had either diminished because of grown-up shit or because of the huge influx of erstwhile city-dwellers in the last 40 years unravelling the delicate skeins where faerye wound itself around our world.

Sorry about the politics. I had just finished watching 13 Reasons Why and felt extra-strongly about the dead needing justice.

I am so scared of rainbows. I knew this one was behind, but had to look to cross a junction. Once I saw it, I was OK.

I love my little town so much that I am liable to show the same views over and over again. This time I bring you something different: -

The aftermath of our St Patrick's Day celebrations (our saint is St Petroc, which is supposed to be 'Peter', but I think is another Pádraig/Patrick - he came in via a little port to the north of here called Padstow (pics another time) - this to me is Paddy-Stow.

I <3 rainbows and beaches.

I tried to get a copy of this thread going on the process but I only got a handful of people to post.

Anyone brave enough to post here -

Yes I'd like to add to these nice pics, but I'll have to set some time aside to get out with the camera (which I only tend to use while on hol' in places like Scotland and Wales, so they don't count as local pics).

ps. Why is it considered "brave" to post pics from our localities?

On the contrary, I get the impression that the vast majority of SW fans on these forums are from the U.S. (and I doubt this one is an exception)

For example, The Process 'Flame And Bullshit' subforum is almost exclusively given up to discussion about U.S. political affairs, and I've generally sensed by the sort of expressions that people use in their posts (or their written vernacular), that most of the folks on forums hail from North America.

It's all good of course, and quite entertaining to the British ear (or eyes or whatever) :D

Well I guessed it'd be something along those lines, but they'd be welcome to try and stalk me out among a town population of 142'000 folks, lol!

But on a serious note, it's always wise to remove personal details from any files posted online (and easy enough done).

Very interesting. perhaps it goes along with the question asked why people consider posting their pics brave.
To get my point across I don't venture off anywhere other then here, the vsw board and I visit deviant art. My interactions with people vary. It is strange to me that all the sw enthusiasm comes from chicago, New Jersey, New York, Los Angles... places with millions of people and easy to lie about it in a conversation to keep personal life sacred. I know I am not the only redneck in the south that wants an sw lol...
Also women who say they are from the UK put to bed any hope of the stalker male coming to see her one day.. That is why I say some people choose to lie just to enjoy the sw fantasy without fear of being stalked or kidnapped.
I can Google image alot of things and make people believe I am Justin from Utah. haha

I don't doubt there are people in the us who love sw, maybe uk citizens are just more open in truth idk and short of stealing IP adresses from everyone we will never truly know lol

I think most of us who aren't publicly "out" as a size fetish enthusiast value our privacy, so I'd never consider going to conventions that celebrate the hobby, but I do applaud those who enjoy that kind of thing because I'm sure they enjoy it. Sadly, I think there'd be some awkward questions asked of me If I were to disappear overseas to attend one, so there we go.

It's difficult to assess how many folks from different parts of the world follow this fetish, because we can only draw conclusions from the ones who are actually active on forums. Which when you think about it, is usually only a handful of regular posters. So I'd guess there are probably a lot of people from the southern states of the U.S. who share your interest, but are no doubt just content to lurk for whatever reason. The same goes for everywhere else of course, and the only possible excuse I find understandable about lurking (as opposed to contributing), is that they don't feel comfortable with using the English language. But most are just out to lap up the freebies for their own jollies.

ps. An IP adress won't pinpoint your actual habitat, so don't lose sleep over some stalker knocking on your door (unless it's little me! Then be afraid.. be very afraid!)

My IP puts me in the middle of the Thames.

Especially for you Sal, some memories of when I were a lad - this was when only about 20 people had cars in the whole town...the rest had rickshaws or donkies. Northumberland Park in Tottenham where that girl was shot dead used to be where we chilled as a family (my life was split between London/Hertfordshire and Cornwall), I remember one of my grandfathers who was a factory foreman take us there and there being like loads of space to park - his was like the minimum rank to have a car - none of the workers under him had one.

I went to a march in Preston 1992 against Lancs County Council ban on working with lesbian and gay young people - as if you can tell and if you do find someone, are you going to throw them out of the Youth Club!? It was an OK sort of town, well sort of :p

1992? Well I think we can claim to be a little more enlightened and tolerant nowadays.

'92 was a Guild year too, so I guess your visit didn't coincide with the celebrations of it (the main events would have been occurring during September)
