Gumroad banning all NSFW content
This comes as a massive hit to me, and I don't know what to do next. My SW animations and comics have only a few sales, but I loved making them and sharing them, and I have been secretly hoping to someday be discovered by all the world's SW fans and be successful at last.
But as is, it's all going to be gone as soon as Gumroad does the sweep and deletes my products.
Before that happens, go and see if there's anything you might like to buy:
https://swanims.gumroad.com
As for alternatives, JustForFans says they welcome displaced creators, but I tried to open the page, and it says my USA state from which I'm opening the page has laws and it's a mess. So I'll be looking for a replacement site, but I don't know if it'll be back.
When I find a new store, I'll send all my customers codes so they can redownload them for free. In the meanwhile, please don't share my products. I have been really hoping they could be a source of income in the future
With this, I have to say I'm incredibly depressed and as I write this I'm literally crying. But I hope sanity comes back. There is nothing wrong with NSFW products. It is a human need, and I was proud to share.
But it's being taken away and I don't have the power to do anything about it. Which seems to be the theme of my life

I'm hearing Fansly or Deviantarts Shop option are good places but yeah, I still say keep it up or hide the items just in case they walk this back. Sounds like Gumroad is getting forced by Stripe/Paypal here and Gumroad couldn't budge to get more space.pokonota wrote: ↑Sat Mar 16, 2024 2:33 amThis comes as a massive hit to me, and I don't know what to do next. Re: Gumroad banning all NSFW content
I recommend Ko-fi, SubscribeStar, and Pixiv Fanbox. If all else fails, you're gonna have to build your own website.
But yeah, I was talking about that yesterday in [url]the other thread.
(https://shrunken-women-board.com/phpBB3 ... f=5&t=6299)
This all the fault of those damn credit cards companies putting sites like Gumroad on a leash like this.
The main reason is due to the amount of chargebacks and fraudulent purchases made from NSFW content. This ends up costing these companies a lot. On the surface it seems “porn bad” to them, but really, it’s just rich assholes trying to cover their asses.
Either way, it seems like no matter what we do, those stupid rich f**ks in corpos are gonna keep finding ways to make it all disappear and make us all miserable and force us into their stupid, hypocritical standards.

Don't trust Pixiv. They only want japanese artists and will perma-ban you on the first offence for nothing.

Yeah, Pixiv is not an option.
Neither is Ko-Fi, from their "Using the NSFW tag" page:
https://help.ko-fi.com/hc/en-us/article ... e-NSFW-Tag
= Not allowed on Ko-fi (regardless of NSFW tag)
Sexualised nudity
Making your own site may not be an option either, since the payment processor problem will apply to you all the same.
Using crypto for payments is unlikely to be a solution either

Impossible. I'm an American artist and I post art on there all the time. It's fine.
This is getting DO annoying! It's like nothing is safe to make business online anymore.pokonota wrote: ↑Sat Mar 16, 2024 9:05 amYeah, Pixiv is not an option.

That's a great pic and complying with any nsfw rule imaginable. There's absolutely no reason you should of gotten a ban for it. So yeah, don't trust Pixiv
In general, like I said, to ppl in general, don't make the mistake of thinking you can rely on any Japanese platform. Their cultural insularism is AGGRESSIVE and pervasive. And they don't respect rules or decorum when it comes to "foreigners"

And by the way, I now seriously hope Gumroad gets punished: they tweeted today "900,000$ in sales just today!", with it being obvious it's bcs of the firesales of NSFW creators. It's like they're taunting us

Re: Gumroad banning all NSFW content
I happen to be one of those victims of circumstances, and I decided to move my stuff over to itch.io, where despite using the same payment systems as Gumroad, they're still alive being NSFW-friendly, AFAIK.
I hate it when processing companies decide to play politics instead of letting freedom ring, and Gumroad doesn't put up a fight to protect those they allowed on for years.

Yeah, I saw that tweet and went "I wonder why...", cuz they sure love profits more than the people they serve. Probably the most awkward tweet, considering the timing to do such. lol

Hi, oh what bad news, I had time uploading some designs, how I hate these illogical restrictions. Well, in case anyone wants, here I leave what my gumroad is while they take that stupid measure...

What other platforms do you recommend where this content can be sold!?
Sorry, my native language is not English xD

Re: Gumroad banning all NSFW content
Well, I was discussing this with Lurk today but, my store is still there. I even got a sale a couple days ago (yes, just 1 sale, my stuff doesn't sell much, as you can see from the sales numbers in each page)
So basically, what's going on? If Gumroad is not gonna enforce it, I think I wanna keep posting my anims, comix & artworks there. I already have it set up and I am scared of going to JustForFans. I like the Gumroad visual theme, and I don't like the pr0n look of JustForFans.
Still, I guess this is wishful thinking and any day my anims will be banned. I click on the "this product is NSFW" checkbox properly whenever I publish something, so it's trivial to them to just ban them
So Idk what's going on. I am aware I may be going thru the Denial part of the grieve process. Or what do you think?

Re: Gumroad banning all NSFW content
My guess, the very explicit ones got hidden. The others are low profile enough. It's very weird. I know some users hidden their stuff and the links work but you can't buy them, I guess no one wants to risk a ban to find out.pokonota wrote: ↑Mon Mar 25, 2024 2:49 amWell, I was discussing this with Lurk today but, my store is still there. Re: Gumroad banning all NSFW content
According to ared38 from r/answers, when asked why OnlyFans was doing this in response to payment processors going anti-nsfw:
It's financial, not moral.
You know how you can dispute fraudulent credit card charges? When that happens, the payment processor has to give money back to the credit card company. This is called a chargeback. Payment processors know how often it happens on average and bake it into the fees they charge businesses like OnlyFans.
The problem is that OnlyFans gets a lot more chargebacks than average. Part of it is being in the porn industry -- people get embarrassed when their spouse sees it in the credit card statement and claim it was fraudulent, or kids steal their parents cards. But for OnlyFans in particular, people were using chargebacks to scam performers. You could pay, download all the content, and then dispute the credit card charge to essentially get it for free.
This makes OnlyFans a very unattractive customer for payment processors. The high number of chargebacks creates a ton of work and throws off the heuristics they have to predict fraudulent charges. And if there are enough, the credit card companies might ban the payment processor from running their cards, effectively putting them out of business (this is why there's not a niche payment processor for porn, even though the demand is there).
Sidenote: OnlyFans could theoretically keep selling porn and process payments itself, but it's not likely. It involves a ton of regulations and requires keeping very big and powerful companies happy. There's a reason Stripe is worth billions of dollars.
In my opinion, I think you could open any subscriber support page, like Patreon, Ko-Fi, subscribestar etc. and post only SFW art there as a diversion. Create your own website that has the NSFW stuff, with these instructions for those who want to access them:
1. Make an account on Patreon, Ko-Fi, subscribestar etc.
2. Subscribe to your SFW account using the email you want to login here with
3. Ask you for an account with that email
4. Once you verify that the person with the email is one of your subscribers, then you can give them access.
