Where we all live (a poll) reset on 1st of Dec.
I thought it might be interesting to get an idea of where we all live. Not necessarily of where we originally came from, but where we now call our home. I've been quite general with the regions listed in the poll, but if you want to post and be more specific about the place where you are, then that would be great!
So having said that, I'd better start by being more specific myself.
I entered "Europe" in the poll, but I live in Northern England in the county of Lancashire, and outside a small city called Preston (my place of birth).
Not a bad place to live, if you can put up with the occasional wandering giant (as seen in my avvy)
PS. The poll has been reset to zero after abuse from an unknown source. It is now only available to registered members.

Do people really live in Greenland?

Apparently they do, but not too many. The first two paragraphs of Wiki have interesting facts. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Greenland
Talking of thinly populated places, I thought it safe not to include Antartica in the poll. Which as far as I'm aware doesn't have a native population (but of course does have residents at research stations, and visiting explorers).

Though if I were of a more cynical frame of mind, I might perhaps question why so many have made their presence known in such a very short space of time (in less than 24 hrs)
It surely couldn't be a piss take, could it? (though a mere member wouldn't have the means to achieve that I'm sure). Interesting.

I'm not so sure a member wouldn't be able to do this. With your permission I would be willing to try and manipulate one result.sally g wrote: ↑Fri Nov 30, 2018 12:04 amCapture.PNG
Well goodness me, it seems like we have more members from the continent of Africa than I'd have ever thought possible, so a warm welcome to you all!

I'm quiet curious myself.

Okay, seemingly guests could vote...and it took only 32 different check boxes to disable that.
(On 32 different reloads of the settings page as after each setting change you get back to user selection)

Yes, by all means try it, xxxxx (though I think Elana might have closed that particular door now).xxxxx wrote: ↑Sat Dec 01, 2018 3:26 amI'm not so sure a member wouldn't be able to do this. But just to say, I did actually test this out myself by logging out, and found I was able to register another vote whilst off the site (adding one further figure to the Europe total). But after that I was unable to vote again, so it must have recognised that (off site) vote and barred me from adding more. So why the count for "Africa" was able to soar through the ceiling is a mystery to me. I find it hard to believe we had that many current members (and/or unregistered "visitors") from that region using the poll in that time period, so I can only assume there was mischief involved.
Good to know to you've solved that guest access issue (for a poll). I checked out the test too, so can confirm that voting is blocked whilst logged out.
However, we now have poll with figures that are inaccurate, so is there any way you can reset it to zero? It was after all only intended to be a poll of our genuine members.
Failing that, you could delete the topic entirely, and I'd be more than happy to set up a new poll.

As it turns out I can reset a poll
(Well actually delete and the recreate it)
With some luck we now get more believable results

Re: Where we all live (a poll) reset on !st of Dec.
Ha! Shore is! It is pretty nice, even though it's over-taxed NJ. I like places like Island Beach which has such a lovely beach area, and it's close to Seaside if you want Boardwalk and rides and nightlife during the summer.
The Jersey Shore show, though, has people from out of the area, though. We call them "bennies." They are the rude, flashy, loud tourists from North Jersey and New York.
And if you're from South Jersey, they call them Shoobies, cause they used to come to the shore mainly from Philadelphia, with shoe box lunches instead of buying food from the local restaurants and such.

Nice one, and welcome! I've been visiting the Scottish highlands for many years, so I know your homeland quite well. I can't say the same about Texas, but it has always stirred my imagination as a unique kind of state which has been fiercely independant historically. It's also where some of my musical heroes hail from. Like Willie Neslson, Waylon Jennings and Don Henley, to name but three.
Haha! Thanks for that insight Oz. It sounds like a nice place to me (well most of the time at least, when you're not fighting for space with the visitors). I guess the best thing about being a resident in a popular location, is that you get to enjoy it all year round in the quieter off season periods. The boardwalks you speak of sound similar to things we call "piers" in our UK seaside resorts. Which are long boarded walkways supported by iron and steel jutting out into the sea from the promenade, most of which host attractions and even theatres, along with the usual food outlets. Blackpool (just 16 miles from Preston) is famous for having three of them.OhZone wrote: ↑Sun Dec 02, 2018 3:09 pmHa! Shore is! It is pretty nice, even though it's over-taxed NJ. I have some great Facebook friends from Scotland, including a wee lesbian chick who's very cool, but just a tad too young for me. But I'm involved now, anyway.
I also have a cool friend from Houston.

Yes, we have lots of piers. We call them piers too and some are famous, like the Steel Pier in Atlantic City.
I need to check out England and Scotland some day. I'll put Blackpool on my list!
